Featured in Belle... — Wednesday, August 20, 2008
It's wonderful to see that some of our fabrics have been included in Belle's latest feature on textiles. They asked five fashion designers to create works of wearable art inspired by the four corners of the globe.

The first design is Jin, a Viscose/Cotton brocade from the Continental Drift Collection. This fabric recreates an authentic silk brocade without the hassles of using silk fibres.

The second image features Ohara and Hoshi. They are both figured velvets with Chinese lantern and lattice designs. Again these fabrics are from the stunning Continental Drift Collection which was released last year.
I'd also like to mention two more recent releases from Unique inspired by other corners of the globe; Africa and Central Asia. The collection Mambazo recreates African Kuban cloth (Zoussa and Benoue) and also features a vintage leather (Masai) and embroidered linen (Nakala).

Bukhara is our most recent 'ethnic' collection. It offers two beautiful Ikat designs, Bukhara and Tajik, with a sumptuous silk look. Ikat designs are certainly making their presence felt in high fashion and interior design trends. The ikats in Bukhara are incredibly true to historical central Asian designs but are woven using technically advanced yarn and weave construction which creates an authentic look, again without the problems of silk.
