Ceramica Wednesday, November 09, 2011

Have you seen our latest stock collection? It's called Ceramica and as the name suggests it was inspired by the great historical porcelain designs...

Ceramica Main

Initially conceived three years ago, Ceramica has been a long time in the making. We envisaged a predominately blue collection that was fresh and sophisticated. There were all the usual issues to consider: design theme, finding the right base-cloth, pattern scale, colour palette, size of the collection etc. But we also wondered whether the market was ready for a blue print collection - remember all that blue and yellow from the early 90's!

Well things are a lot more subtle this time round. The yellow is gone, replaced by earthy neutrals and the blues are less harsh too: Our deep blue is indigo rather than cobalt, and our pale blue is a lovely sky hue rather than a periwinkle...

Delft colourway

We've mixed up the designs too with a broad range of looks. Meissen (below) is grand, while Antique Rose (front cushion above) has a strong vintage look. Ming is a contemporary calligraphy-type design and Chantilly is fun and feminine.

Meissen

Alongside the prints are a selection of stripes and checks (Villeroy, Ceramic Stripe), plains (Logan, Coutts, Barker) and a damask (Thaj Flowers). I'd like to make special mention of Villeroy Stripe and Villeroy Check - they are both beautiful twill weaves, woven in New Zealand using 95% Wool, 5% Nylon. If you are a fan of classic woollen textiles with a lovely drape then they are a must-see.

For more information please visit the Ceramica collection page. To see a full-width image simply click on the design names in the caption. This will link you to a specification page, with swatches of the various colourways and technical information.

Hope your week is going well.

Carol
