Proposte 2011Friday, May 13, 2011

So another Proposte has been and gone with a number of interesting trends emerging. One of the more prominent trends I'd describe as 'tortured' textiles (rather than 'distressed'!) where fabrics were washed and given a pronounced worn effect, often to the point of being thread bare and having holes. Angelina and I were not so taken with this extreme look, perferring something not so shabby, more along the lines of our distressed linen Ranger from the Nauticus collection.

Pattern-wise, ethnic and artisan designs were still to the fore with some beautiful ikats and kilims about. Various types of lace also made an appearance. We were pleased to see the popularity of small to mid-sized geometric patterns continuing on from last year. Our Deco Velours collection is right on the mark there.

Fibre-wise linen once again reigned supreme - it was everywhere. Australasian sheep farmers will be pleased to know that there was quite a lot of wool on offer, some of it very beautiful!

There was no great deviations from last year's colour palette, where neutrals were again more grey than brown, with lots of taupe and charcoal about. Perhaps overall the colours were slightly deeper this year but still retained a 'powdery' look, particularly the pinks and turquoises.

It will be interesting to see which looks filter through in the coming months.
