Maximum ExposureThursday, December 01, 2011

I've been tardy in blogging about Exposure, Carlucci's fabulous new release. There's a good excuse: We have an exciting new project on the boil which has been taking up a lot of my time. It's something we'll announce next week, so stay tuned for that. But back to Exposure and all its glory...

Firstly it's radical! With a dramatic blend of psychedelia, vivid colours, animal patterns and metallics, it's not for the timid. Here's a taste of the press release shots...

Exposure Sparks

If you're a fan of animal patterns then the book 'Big City Jungle' is an absolute must. The fabrics are luscious, with rich velvets, complex jacquards and lacquered linens, in a menagerie of designs; leopard, pony, snake, zebra, crocodile...

Exposure Animal patterns

My collection highlight is the wallcoverings book 'Wonderwalls'. Which has a soft metallic colour palette and a great selection of patterned and textured designs. Very sophisticated...

Wonderwalls Exposure

For fans of Fornasetti and all things black and white, the 'Fever in the Funkhouse' book is for you. With a great mix of Pop motifs, from Cesare to faux bois. This book also sports a selection of bold geometrics, I particularly love the deco inspired design called 'Tumbling Dice'.

Donate to MovemberFriday, November 25, 2011

Meet our Warehouse Manager...

Greg Dougan Movember

No we don't employ Chopper, or Merv Hughes' cousin. It's just a hairier version of Greg and his mighty Movember effort.

It would be much appreciated if you could take a few minutes and visit his official Movember page and pledge some money - it's for a great cause. And with the online donation system, it's super easy.

Much appreciated!

Outdoor draperyTuesday, November 22, 2011

It's a classic European look: outdoor drapes hanging in a loggia or between the columns of a Mediterranean terrace. I often wonder why they're not more common in this part of the world.

Outdoor drapery is a great functional option for sheltered areas, being more flexible than hard architecture such as shutters and trellis. Throughout the day individual drops can be adjusted to create the right amount of shading, without blocking ambient light. They're also a fantastic way to provide privacy.

Below is a selection of images using the various outdoor/indoor fabrics we have on offer. Our three main outdoor collections are Get Out, Outstanding and Outside In.

Aesthetically outdoor drapery will introduce a soft, colourful dimension to your garden and at the same time transform a plain deck into an outdoor living room.

On your marksMonday, November 14, 2011

On my desk is an entry form for Andrew Martin's Design Review 2012 and with the closing date not far away (11 December) I thought I should mention it.

It was a real thrill to see the antipodean conclusions in this year's volume and we'd like to encourage other Australasian designers to apply for 2012's edition. I guess the main criteria for entering is a portfolio of fabulous interiors!

To find out more you can download the entry form here. Or we can send one out to you.

Best of luck.

Ceramica Wednesday, November 09, 2011

Have you seen our latest stock collection? It's called Ceramica and as the name suggests it was inspired by the great historical porcelain designs...

Ceramica Main

Initially conceived three years ago, Ceramica has been a long time in the making. We envisaged a predominately blue collection that was fresh and sophisticated. There were all the usual issues to consider: design theme, finding the right base-cloth, pattern scale, colour palette, size of the collection etc. But we also wondered whether the market was ready for a blue print collection - remember all that blue and yellow from the early 90's!

Well things are a lot more subtle this time round. The yellow is gone, replaced by earthy neutrals and the blues are less harsh too: Our deep blue is indigo rather than cobalt, and our pale blue is a lovely sky hue rather than a periwinkle...

Delft colourway

We've mixed up the designs too with a broad range of looks. Meissen (below) is grand, while Antique Rose (front cushion above) has a strong vintage look. Ming is a contemporary calligraphy-type design and Chantilly is fun and feminine.

Meissen

Alongside the prints are a selection of stripes and checks (Villeroy, Ceramic Stripe), plains (Logan, Coutts, Barker) and a damask (Thaj Flowers). I'd like to make special mention of Villeroy Stripe and Villeroy Check - they are both beautiful twill weaves, woven in New Zealand using 95% Wool, 5% Nylon. If you are a fan of classic woollen textiles with a lovely drape then they are a must-see.

For more information please visit the Ceramica collection page. To see a full-width image simply click on the design names in the caption. This will link you to a specification page, with swatches of the various colourways and technical information.

Hope your week is going well.
